How we collect data

We collect data when you:

  • browse scaledpapers.com or a public status page
  • create or use a ScaledPapers account
  • run the website down checker
  • create status pages, components, checks, or incidents
  • subscribe to a status page, connect Slack, or send feedback
  • use Daily research papers (save, notes, Ask AI)
  • email us about support, privacy, or legal questions

We do not buy personal data from brokers.

What we collect and why

Account

Sign-in uses a magic link. We store the email address you give us so we can authenticate you, send service messages, and reply to support. You can use any working email; a legal name is not required.

Status pages and monitoring

We store the pages, components, optional probe URLs, incidents, and subscriber details you add so the product can run checks, show public status, and send updates you enable (email, RSS, or Slack).

Website down checker

When you submit a URL, we send probes from multiple cloud regions and keep the URL plus timing and HTTP results long enough to show you the report and to rate-limit abuse.

Paper reader

If you are signed in, we store likes, skips, notes, and related paper state so they persist across devices.

Feedback and mail

Messages you send through Feedback or email, plus the page path if included, are stored so we can respond and improve the product.

Technical logs

Servers may log a request time, URL, browser or app version, and a coarse identifier. We use this to keep the service up, debug, and block abuse. Identifiable request logs are usually dropped within a few weeks unless we need them for a specific incident.

Payments

Paid plans are not live yet. If we later charge for the service, card details will be handled by a PCI-compliant processor. We will not store full card numbers on our own servers. This page will be updated before any charge is taken.

Where data is stored

Application data lives with our hosting and database providers, primarily in the United States. Probe and email infrastructure also runs on US-region cloud services. We may open a copy of data on a personal computer to debug or operate the service, and remove it when that work is done.

We treat privacy rights in the spirit of the EU GDPR—access, correction, erasure, portability, and objection—for every user we can identify, whether or not GDPR applies to you.

Access, change, and delete

You can review and edit most account and page data in the ScaledPapers console. To export or erase an account, email [email protected]. Closing an account deletes associated pages, checks, incidents, subscribers, and paper-reader state after we process the request. Public status URLs stop resolving once the page is removed.

Who we share with

We do not sell personal data. We use other companies as processors to run ScaledPapers. They fall into these categories:

  • authentication and database hosting
  • site and edge hosting
  • regional probes and transactional email
  • Slack — only if you connect a workspace
  • Google Fonts — typefaces on the marketing site (your browser requests them from Google, which may see your IP address)

Those companies process data so we can deliver the service. We do not use advertising pixels or sell retargeting profiles. We do not make automated decisions that produce legal or similarly significant effects about you.
